A young policeman Roman Chepurin (Petrov) is in love with Tanya Parshina (Dementyeva) who was brought up at an orphan home and now works as a sewer together with her friend Olya Kovaleva (Burkova). However Tanya considers Roma to be weak-willed and incapable to be a husband. But Olya has been fond of Roma for a long time. Once Tanya and Olya hurrying to a party get in the car of a stranger and find themselves ... captive in a cellar of his country house. The captives and their abductor Boris Burov (Moskvichev) share the house his mother Valentina Ilyinichna (Zakharova) who has a great influence on her son. Roman, waiting for Tanyas call, is worried about her silence and begins searching for the girls. Boris, being incited by his mother, tries to rape Olya but he fails. He vents his anger at Tanya... Romans searches are fruitless. He is fired from the police for debauch. Ilya Gurin (Tarabara), a colleague of Roman, gives him a key to his summer cottage where Roma can live for some time. Some months later Olya instigates Tanya to escape but she confesses that she likes to be with Boris, he is the man she has always dreamed about. Olya recalls Roman and Tanya says she is pregnant...
