The series features the everyday life of a special operational investigative group of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate in St. Petersburg. This special unit is established as a part of the new program of the Ministry of the Interior launched to improve the efficiency of crime prevention measures. The unit is responsible for solving cold cases stored up in different departments of internal affairs of the city. These are “loud” or “status” murders implying that their committers pose a serious hazard to law and order. For improvement of investigation efficiency specialists on crime prevention from different federal and local law enforcement structures were invited to this unit. The head of this unit is Lieutenant Colonel Ilya Stroev. He is around fifty. Ilya Gavrilovich is a man of the world and the cares of the world took the shine out of him. In few years he is to be retired but despite his strengths he did not climb up the carrier ladder. And if not for that new program of the Minister he would be retired as a modest ordinary operative officer. He has got a dream: to write a truthful and fascinating book – and surely he has got something to tell about – the tough life of cops. He has already found the name for his book: “Farewell to “Makarov!”
