This film is a story told by people whose passports bear a stamp reading “Place of Residence: St. Petersburg”. The film is not devoted to the St. Pete’s Tercentenary but portrays common people and their everyday lives in spite of the anniversary festivities and ceremonial celebrations. White nights, drawbridges, shared apartments, floods, smelt, excursions to the Hermitage, president’s motorcades in the hometown of the powers-that-be, remnants of the old good Leningrad, the dam, the midday cannon-shot, etc. All these are the brands of St. Petersburg. It’s impossible to imagine St. Pete without all these attributes. The producers’ idea was to portray the everyday, routine life of the city, without gloss and “festive attire.”
