For decades, homosexuality was more than a forbidden topic in our country. Just years ago, homosexuals were persecuted and imprisoned. Clause 121 of Russias Criminal Code, under which over 250,000 people were punished, was repealed only in 1993. Similar repressions were existed only in Nazi Germany where homosexuals were sent to concentration camps. In the USSR, this Clause was applied to suppress dissidents, non-conformists and the rest of otherwise-minded who opposed to the existing regime. What has changed over the last nine years after the notorious clause was repealed? Can people speak openly of their sexual orientation? After that, some of them can be fired, others can be deprived of their right to medical treatment or beaten in the street. The Internet is probably the only way for these people to socialize and to love without awaiting punishment for that. There, on the Internet, they havent got to prove that they are not castaways, that theyre just a bit different than the rest of us.
